  21. The Shareware Concept
  22. ---------------------
  23.      Shareware is not a type of software but a way of distributing software. It
  24. is quite different from "retail" distribution. Retail software is copyrighted
  25. and has a user license that prohibits copying and sharing of the software. With
  26. retail software you are required to pay for the software before you try it out.
  27. If it does not meet your needs or work as expected, it may sit on your shelf and
  28. collect dust. The money you paid for it is lost (unless it had a money back
  29. guarantee).
  30.      Shareware is also copyrighted software, but you are encouraged to freely
  31. share it among other users. Shareware is really a good deal! For almost no
  32. investment in money, you can try the software out before you pay for it. If it
  33. does not meet your needs or work on your system, throw it away. If you find it
  34. useful and continue to use it, only then are you obligated to pay for it.

  56. administrators, heirs and assigns. Any action or proceeding brought by either
  57. party against the other arising out of or related to this agreement shall be
  58. brought only in a STATE or FEDERAL COURT of competent jurisdiction located in
  59. Lawrence County, South Dakota. The parties hereby consent to in personam
  60. jurisdiction of said courts.

  63. Limited Use License
  64. -------------------
  65.      UltraDoc is shareware. The copyright and all rights to the program are
  66. owned by Shepherd Software. This is a full working program. No part of it is
  67. disabled or crippled in any way. Shepherd Software hereby grants you a limited
  68. license to use this software for evaluation purposes for a period not to exceed
  69. thirty (30) days. If you intend to continue using this software (and/or its
  70. documentation) after the thirty (30) day evaluation period, you MUST make a
  71. registration payment of $19.00 plus shipping and handling ($4.00 per copy) to
  72. Shepherd Software. Using this software after the evaluation period without
  73. registering is a violation of the terms of this limited license.
  74.      Licensee shall not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile,
  75. disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the licensed program except
  76. as provided in this agreement. Any such unauthorized use shall result in
  77. immediate and automatic termination of this license.

  81. Limited Distribution License

  83.      Shepherd Software encourages you to freely copy and distribute the
  84. unregistered version of UltraDoc subject to the following restrictions:
  85.      The UltraDoc package is defined as containing all the material listed in
  86. the PACKING.LST text file. If any files listed in the PACKING.LST text file, or
  87. the PACKING.LST file itself, are missing, then the package is not complete and
  88. distribution is forbidden.  Please contact Shepherd Software to obtain a
  89. complete package suitable for distribution.
  90.      *  The UltraDoc package - including all related program files and
  91. documentation files - CANNOT be modified in any way and must be distributed as a
  92. complete package, without exception.
  93.      *  You may charge a distribution fee for the package, but you must not
  94. represent in any way that you are selling the software itself.
  95.      *  The PRINTED documentation may not be reproduced in whole or in part,
  96. using any means, without written permission from Shepherd Software. In other
  97. words, the disk-based documentation may not be distributed in PRINTED (hardcopy)
  98. form.

  106. What It Is
  107. ----------
  108. UltraDoc is a utility that formats text in multiple columns and sends it to your
  109. printer. The maximum dimensions of the printed page are limited only by your
  110. printer and computer's memory. You can specify the page width and height from
  111. within the program. There is almost no limitation on printers supported since you
  112. can enter the printer codes needed to support the page size for your printer
  113. directly into the program.

  115. UltraDoc can save reams of paper when printing shareware documentation, README
  116. files, program source code, or any true ASCII text file. It gives you a great deal
  117. of control over the printed output and allows you to save almost all the program
  118. settings to disk. You can then load these settings automatically when you run the
  119. program or manually at a later time. All this is done with a friendly, easy to use
  120. interface that supports both mouse and keyboard and has extensive online help.

  123. Installing ULTRADOC manually
  124. ----------------------------
  125.     1.) Make a subdirectory on your hard drive for storing all ULTRADOC files.

  127.       For example, to create a subdirectory called ULTRADOC,
  128.       from the DOS prompt type:

  130.         MD C:\ULTRADOC

  132.     2.) Copy all the ULTRADOC files to the subdirectory you created in step 1.

  134.       For example, if the ULTRADOC files reside on drive A: and your hard
  135.       drive is drive C:, from the DOS prompt type:

  137.         COPY A:*.* C:\ULTRADOC
  138.  
  139.       If the ULTRADOC files reside on drive A: in the ULT subdirectory and
  140.       your hard directory is drive C, from the DOS prompt type:

  145. Installing ULTRADOC with the INSTALL program
  146. --------------------------------------------
  147.     Type INSTALL followed by the drive and subdirectory you want to install
  148.     ULTRADOC to on your hard drive.

  150.     For example, if you are installing ULTRADOC from drive A: to your hard
  151.     drive C: type the following (Press the Enter key after each line):

  159.     To run ULTRADOC, go to the subdirectory on your hard drive where you
  160.     installed ULTRADOC and type the program name.

  163.     from the DOS prompt type (press the Enter key after each line):
